Alcohol consumption is one of the few metrics that has an inverse relationship with economic health. Meaning, when times are hard, alcohol consumption actually goes up. Generally speaking, the alcohol industry rarely sees a significant decline in sales. Unfortunately, although it’s a booming industry, most of the dollars are spent with large, established vendors – making it hard for newcomers to break into the industry.

According to CNN, Smirnoff, Captain Morgan, and Jack Daniels led liquor sales in 2014 with each brand generating from $200M to $300M in sales. When we talk about economic boycotts, reallocating your dollars to black owned liquor distributors and brands is a great way to make an impact. Both consumers and black restaurant owners can make a siginificant impact by trying out a few of the brands in this post.

As we approach the holidays, please consider purchasing wine, beer and spirits from black owned businesses. We’ve selected 10 companies that distribute locally or sell their products online.
