Many of us own businesses, and we spend a significant amount of time promoting ourselves via social media, networking, etc. But, how many of us are actually supporting other black owned businesses? And, if you are supporting them, are you sharing your experiences and promoting them as well. In addition to liking someone’s facebook page, it would be powerful if you could add a review, or give the business a shout-out based on your personal experience and patronage.
Apart from my involvement in I Am Black Business, I’ve taken a personal charge to support more black owned businesses. This is not a request for recognition, but it IS a challenge for everyone to realize the importance of giving back, by supporting others.
I would charge all black business owners to shift your marketing approach. Experiment with two-way marketing. Instead of pushing your business/products…start supporting others. In most cases, the business will undoubtedly return the favor.
B2B transactions have the potential to make a huge impact on the perception of black owned businesses. As a business owner, another business owner is the only person that will truly understand and value your struggle or success. This type of selfless marketing will be the single most important factor that increases the support and longevity of black owned business.
