The topic for this post came to me one night after I was viewing the team twitter account. I usually find time to review our  timeline to retweet and like posts from those that we follow. As I was going through my usual process, I started to think about the true value of a retweet or like.

I don’t want to downplay or discourage people from retweeting or sharing on social media but encourage people to make real connections “beyond the tweet.” Let’s be real, unless you are someone like Oprah, a typical retweet isn’t going to move the needle on most things; however, when you go “beyond the tweet,” you gain more influence and credibility which in return increases the power of your sharing.

Retweeting or liking a page is the most basic form of support. Moving beyond the tweet, means  connecting with someone and supporting their product or service. It’s only after you show support that you become more than a follower but a true supporter that can then use your first hand experience to return value to the business or person you supported.

I hope this post hits home and motivates you to become more than a follower. Don’t fall into digital age apathy. Become a true supporter and move beyond the tweet.
