A key aspect of black economic empowerment is removing the stigma that black owned businesses are subpar. This excuse to not support black owned businesses is an easy cop out as there are many reputable black owned businesses that are not only on par but sometimes better than their counterparts. Our directory’s main goal is to make it easy to locate these reputable black owned businesses. Black ownership doesn’t make the business inferior. It’s more likely that a black owned business will be more capable of meeting your needs because the owner will typically have similar interests.
Just like any business, one or many factors such as lack of education and lack of funding can contribute to the poor performance of a business. We believe that receiving proper feedback, whether it be positive or negative, can greatly increase the quality of a business. Our development roadmap includes an innovative review system. This review system will allow consumers to help businesses understand what they’re doing well as well as what needs improvement. Black consumers must be willing to give a black owned business a chance and be prepared to give constructive feedback. Black business owners must be open to this feedback and make changes as needed.
The purpose of this post is not for consumers to lower their expectations, but to take a special interest in providing feedback with a commitment to revisit the business. With an open mind, both black consumers and businesses can improve our community through economic empowerment.
